What our members say

I cannot tell you how happy I was to read this news about MTN!  I was able to make many trips that I would not have been able to do if I had to pay the high motel cost.

Having been a member of the Network since 2006 it has been such a privilege to host all the wonderful people we have met. …to date we have hosted 27 different times. The friends we have met, stories that have been told (from both sides),and times we have shared have enriched our life immeasurably. The common bond of the motorcycle always seems to bring out the best in everyone.
Jim
We are using the MTN Network almost exclusively ever since we joined, and have met wonderful people who have become friends. The next couple weeks promises to bring even more friends into our lives! Thanks for a great website!

Just got back from my first big trip. I was gone 16 days and put 2k on my new Silverwing. The MTN places I stayed with were so great. All great people and it was so nice to have a safe and comfortable places to stay. Plus having a garage to keep your bike in is so nice. As a woman traveling alone it was great for me. I think I have the traveling bug now!

I just came back from the Hurleys in Ontario. I stayed with them last year also. My bike broke down in Iron Bridge, 250 miles from the Hurleys, I was able to get a tow through AAA for 100 miles and Ron met us there (150 miles from his house) and trailered me back to his house, picked up the parts in North Bay (20 miles away) and got a mechanic neighbor to fix the bike Saturday night. I gave Ron a good check but could not believe how wonderful the Hurleys were. If not for the network I would have been up a creek without a paddle and many more dollars in the hole.

I’ve been using MTN since last year when I was on a road trip all over the U.S. Thanks to MTN, I was able to extend my trip to nearly four months. The people I meet along the way are absolutely fabulous. Thanks so much for starting this network! It allows me to travel longer and further than I could if I had to pay for a motel every night.

Wonderful visit with Larry and Kathy in Sarnia. Took us to a wonderful restaurant overlooking Lake Huron. Two beautiful cats, and a classic motorcycle.
David
Robert and Margaret stayed with us one night on their way through. We enjoyed them greatly and look forward to traveling and hosting. I think this will be GREAT FUN!

On my recent trip south from April 4th through 12th, I had great stays with Jim in Germantown, TN and Skip in Mandeville LA. Both accommodations were perfect for me.

We have been safely returned to home from our outing to Alaska. We want to take this opportunity to thank you, one and all, for helping make this trip a most enjoyable and memorable one. We hope you consider coming to visit us, and without hesitation recommend everyone else on this list to you as thoughtful, and gracious hosts. Ride safely, and enjoy !

How are the hosts' homes evaluated?
We require four home photos - front, guest room, bathroom, and common area - to visually confirm neatness and maintenance. Members commit to providing clean, private accommodations and breakfast. We rely on member feedback to ensure hosts meet cleanliness and maintenance standards.

Do I have to host? How many times?
Well, yes and no. You must have the ability to host. However, you only host if the requested time is reasonably convenient for you. This is a reciprocal organization and those that travel are expected to host, when possible. Some members never get a call to host and some get many.

Is MTN similar to Bunk-a-Biker?
MTN and BaB both aim to connect motorcycle enthusiasts with affordable lodging. However, there are distinct differences: 1. Privacy of Personal Data: MTN safeguards private member info (last name, address, phone and email), only revealing them to guests once their stay request is accepted. In contrast, BaB's member information is open to anyone online.
2. Membership Vetting: MTN meticulously reviews member applications, ensuring a trusted community. BaB, being unmoderated, lacks this vetting process.
3. Lodging Clarity: BaB's lodging can range from private room to space on the floor. With MTN, member profiles provide clear photos, so you know you'll be spending the night in advance.
4. Gratuity Expectation: MTN requires a $20/night gratuity payment from guests to hosts, aiding in maintaining quality stays. BaB has no such guideline.

To sum it up, while BaB is vast and unregulated like Craigslist, MTN is curated and vetted, somewhat like Angie’s List.
